Parent Tips: How to Use This Page for Learning

Here are some fun ideas to turn colouring time into English practice:

1. Learn New Words
Teach your child these words before or while colouring:

• storm
• lightning
• cloud
• raindrop
• leaf
• wet

2. Follow Colour Instructions
Say the colours in English as you colour:

• Colour the leaf ■  green.
• Colour the clouds ■  grey.
• Colour the lightning ■  yellow.
• Colour the raindrops ■  blue.
• Colour Hugo the owl ■ orange.

3. Talk About the Picture
Ask questions in English:

• What can you see?
• Is Hugo wet or dry?
• What colour is the lightning?
• Is the rain under the leaf?

4. Try a Sentence
Help your child say or write:

• “Hugo is under the leaf.”
• “It is stormy.”

5. Play a Game (with Phonics Tip)

• Find and point to everything that starts with L: leaf, lightning.
• Practise the /l/ sound (like in leaf), not the letter name “L”.
  (Say “lllll,” not “el.” Keep your tongue behind your top teeth and let the air flow.)
• Can you think of another word that starts with the /l/ sound?
