Parent Tips: How to Use This Page for Learning
Here are some fun ideas to turn colouring time into English practice:
1. Learn New Words
Teach your child these words before or while colouring:
- storm
- lightning
- cloud
- raindrop
- leaf
- wet
2. Follow Colour Instructions
Say the colours in English as you colour:
- Colour the leaf ■ green.
- Colour the clouds ■ grey.
- Colour the lightning ■ yellow.
- Colour the raindrops ■ blue.
- Colour Hugo the owl ■ orange.
3. Talk About the Picture
Ask questions in English:
- What can you see?
- Is Hugo wet or dry?
- What colour is the lightning?
- Is the rain under the leaf?
4. Try a Sentence
Help your child say or write:
- “Hugo is under the leaf.”
- “It is stormy.”
5. Play a Game (with Phonics Tip)
- Find and point to everything that starts with L: leaf, lightning.
- Practise the /l/ sound (like in leaf), not the letter name “L”.
(Say “lllll,” not “el.” Keep your tongue behind your top teeth and let the air flow.) - Can you think of another word that starts with the /l/ sound?
